Transformations: Analog Photography, Digitally Re-Imagined
The Covid 19 pandemic left many creatives in the difficult situation of physical and mental confinement, struggling with finding avenues of expression. Many turned this period of confinement into a period of documentation, cataloguing mundane experiences in spaces of confinement with hopes of finding meaning in them. Charles Wallace took a different approach; looking backwards to a catalog of analog images created in days of youth and incorporating a digital, AI enhanced world that he, as a recently retired developer, knew was on the horizon.
The result, Transformations, takes scenes and moments composed by Charles, mostly captured with color reversal film and ponders how these same spaces would have been imagined on canvas by great artists of the past. Through 60 pages of images we get to imagine, compare and contrast how each place might be rendered in different artistic styles and mediums. An additional 8 pages document the location of each image and accredits the specific artist whose style inspired each transformation.
This soft covered book, measuring 10.88” by 8.38”, features 68 full color pages printed on sturdy 100lb paper. Shipping will begin March 15.
